California CDL Crisis: Court Grants 60-Day Reprieve
California Injunction Halts CDL Cancellations
Just days after the federal crackdown on non-domiciled licenses began, a California Superior Court judge has issued a temporary injunction against the state DMV.
The lawsuit, filed by a coalition of trucking associations and civil rights groups, argues that the state’s sudden move to cancel licenses—some with years left before expiration—violates the due process of nearly 20,000 drivers in the state.
The Current Status: For now, California drivers who received a cancellation notice have a 60-day window of safety. They can continue to drive while the court determines if the state must provide a more gradual transition period for immigrant drivers who are currently in the middle of their visa applications.
