Motus Registration System: What Carriers Need to Know

Introducing Motus: A Modern FMCSA Portal

The FMCSA has finally launched the first phase of Motus, the long-awaited replacement for the Unified Registration System (URS). This modernized platform is designed to streamline how carriers, brokers, and freight forwarders manage their federal authority.

Key Features of Motus:

Identity Verification: Uses Login.gov to ensure the person registering a company is who they say they are, drastically reducing "identity theft" in the trucking industry.

Unified Dashboard: Combines safety records, insurance filings, and registration data into one clean interface.

Fraud Prevention: Enhanced checks to prevent fraudulent brokers and "chameleon" carriers from operating.

Carriers do not need to take action yet unless they are updating their MCS-150 or filing new authority. The full transition for all existing carriers is expected by mid-2026.
