What this is
CDL Practice Pro is a study tool for the written knowledge tests you have to pass to get a commercial driver's license in the United States. It is not a licensing authority, a driving school, or a government service. Your state's licensing agency administers the real test and issues the license, and every state page here links to that agency so you can confirm anything at the source.
Where the questions come from
There are 1,610 questions in the bank, written to mirror the format and subject matter of the general knowledge test and each endorsement test. Every one carries a written explanation of why the correct answer is correct, because getting a question wrong is only useful if you find out why.
The questions cover all seven knowledge tests: general knowledge, air brakes, combination vehicles, hazardous materials, tanker, passenger, and school bus.
One thing worth being straight about: the questions are not state-specific, and they do not need to be. The knowledge test follows a single federal standard, so the general knowledge test is 50 questions with an 80% pass mark in every state. What genuinely differs by state is the process, the fees, the minimum ages and the agency you deal with, and that is what the state pages cover.
How the state information is checked
State licensing detail is read from the state's own agency and dated, not copied from aggregator sites. Where a state does not publish a figure such as a test fee, we leave it out and link to the agency rather than guess. Educational content is written against the official CDL manual that each state adapts.
If you find something out of date or wrong, tell us and we will fix it. That is not a formality: rules in this industry change often, and 2026 has been an unusually busy year for them.
Who is behind it
CDL Practice Pro is a small independent project, not a large company. It launched in 2026, which means the library is still growing and some pages are deeper than others. We would rather ship a page we can stand behind than fill the site with thin ones.
How it makes money
The free tier is genuinely usable: a practice test every day, drawn from the same question bank, with every explanation included and nothing blurred out. Pro is a one-time payment that removes the daily limit, lengthens each test and unlocks full mock exams. There is no subscription and no advertising.
