Free CDL Practice Test: What Is Actually Free Here
TL;DR
CDL Practice Pro is free to start. Every category is open to everyone, every answer comes with an explanation, and you get 10 new questions a day with no card. The English test, road signs test and readiness check are free with no limit. Paid plans are optional one-time payments that only remove the daily cap.
What you get for free
The free tier has no trial clock and no card on file. You get 10 new practice questions every day, and the limit resets at midnight Eastern time. All seven knowledge tests are open: General Knowledge, Air Brakes, Combination Vehicles, Hazmat, Tanker, Passenger and School Bus. Every answer comes with a written explanation. We do not blur or hide explanations behind a paywall, because the explanation is the part that teaches you the rule.
- 10 new questions a day across every category
- A written explanation on every answer
- No credit card needed
- Reopening a question you already opened does not use up your daily allowance
What is free with no limit
Three tools have no daily cap at all: the CDL readiness check (10 questions, an estimated score in about two minutes), the CDL English test, and the road signs test. The sample questions on each state and endorsement page are free to try as well. State requirement pages, our study guides and the CDL question-and-answer pages are free to read.
What the paid plans add
Paid plans are optional and exist for one reason: they remove the daily limit. Both are single payments. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel.
- Practice, $5.99 for 30 days: unlimited practice, study mode and flagged-question review. No mock exams.
- Full, $9.99 for 99 days: everything in Practice plus full-length timed mock exams.
Is 10 new questions a day enough?
For many people, yes. Ten questions a day for two to three weeks covers a large share of the bank, and re-reading explanations on questions you missed is free. If your test date is close and you want to work through a whole category in one sitting, that is what the paid plans are for. If it is not close, free is enough to build a real study habit. The bank holds more than 1,500 exam-style questions. Passing takes 80% on each knowledge test (49 CFR 383.135), so the goal is steady practice on the topics you miss, not one long cram.
What we are, and what we are not
CDL Practice Pro is a study tool. We are not a licensing authority, a driving school or a government service. Your state agency administers the real test, sets its own fees and scheduling, and issues the license. Our state pages link to the official agency so you can confirm those details at the source. Our questions cover the federal-standard topics every state tests. We do not have a separate question bank for each state.
How to start
Not sure where you stand? Take the readiness check first, then work on the categories where you scored lowest. Start with General Knowledge, since every applicant takes it, and add Air Brakes, Combination Vehicles or an endorsement test as your license requires.
